About the Course
This will be a book study for the book, “Classroom Instruction that Works - Research-based Strategies for Increasing Student Achievement'' by Ceri B. Dean, Elizabeth Ross Hubbell, Howard Pitler, and Bj Stone. We will learn 9 categories of strategies to help create an environment for learning, help students develop understanding, and help students extend and apply their knowledge. The strategies in this book have all been found in multiple studies across the nation and shown great growth in student achievement. The book builds on the work of Robert Marzano, Debra Pickering, and Jane Pollock who published the first addition of this book.
This course is appropriate for all teachers in all subject areas grade K-12.

Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Create an environment for learning by setting objectives and providing feedback, reinforcing effort and providing recognition and providing cooperative learning opportunities.
- Understanding using cues, questions and advanced organizers, nonlinguistic representations, summarizing and note taking, and assigning homework and providing practice.
- Extend and apply knowledge by identifying similarities and differences and generating and testing hypotheses.
