Using WIDA'S Can Do Descriptors to Drive Instruction
About the Course
Teachers will actively participate in online discussions, reflect on current teaching practices, and learn new practices with WIDA Can Do descriptors. After choosing a level (entering, emerging, developing, expanding, bridging, or reaching, students will create a demo lesson that is useful to his or her content area to demonstrate listening, speaking, reading, and writing intended to move a student to the next level. Example shown later in the syllabus.
Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Educators will be able to select materials, including realia, visuals, and graphic organizers to scaffold learning in the content areas.
- Educators will demonstrate learning with a 5-6 slide presentation for colleagues.
- Educators will read the Can Do descriptors form the WIDA website appropriate to their grade level.
- Educators will be able to scaffold instruction and prepare lessons to support the learning of a student from one level to another.
