About the Course

Teachers will actively participate in online discussions, reflect on current teaching practices, and learn new practices with WIDA Can Do descriptors. After choosing a level (entering, emerging, developing, expanding, bridging, or reaching, students will create a demo lesson that is useful to his or her content area to demonstrate listening, speaking, reading, and writing intended to move a student to the next level. Example shown later in the syllabus.

Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to:

  • Educators will be able to select materials, including realia, visuals, and graphic organizers to scaffold learning in the content areas.
  • Educators will demonstrate learning with a 5-6 slide presentation for colleagues.
  • Educators will read the Can Do descriptors form the WIDA website appropriate to their grade level.
  • Educators will be able to scaffold instruction and prepare lessons to support the learning of a student from one level to another.
