Teaching What Really Happened Book Study

About the Course
Teaching What Really Happened is a book study that takes a critical look at Social Studies textbooks and “their lack of awareness of today’s multicultural student audience.” This book study is ideal for the educator who is working towards creating a more culturally competent and inclusive curriculum in their Social Studies courses.
Loewen’s book has an emphasis on events in American history, though the ideas he provides for how to teach can apply to any discipline in the Social Studies. Loewen’s book encourages educators to decolonize their understanding of history and teaching. In this book study, participants can expect to collaborate, discuss, and create materials for their courses.

Great course for teachers of history. After teaching US History for many years, this course gave me many new ideas on how to structure my course and what to focus on. Assignments and activities are things I can do in the classroom right now! Very useful.
