About the Course

Now, more than ever, it is essential for students to feel safe and comfortable in the classroom. Research has been very clear that students have to know they are cared for, they are safe, they matter, etc. We can go back to Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs. How do we do that? A morning meeting is a place to greet each other, share personal news or news about school, create a trusting and caring environment, and a focus on positive behavior. This study of current research and the use of the text The Morning Meeting Books: K-8 by Roxann Kriete & Carol Davis will give educators an immediate application for their classroom. Ideas and strategies fit well with Common Core State Standards for speaking and the core competencies noted by the Collaborative for Academic, Social, and Emotional Learning.
