Content Writing for English Learners: Writing Instruction You Can Use Tomorrow!

About the Course
Educators will learn to use graphic organizers to scaffold writing for English learners. Consistent use of the same organizers allow students to learn the content, and not focus on learning the use of multiple organizers. Work will focus on labeling, description, sequence, summary writing, and compare and contrast writing. Course is supported with work by Marzano, Natalie Wexler, and Betsy Rupp Fulwiler.
Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Select materials, including realia, visuals, and graphic organizers to scaffold writing in the content areas.
- Demonstrate learning with a 5-6 slide presentation for colleagues.
- Evaluate efficacy of various reports for classroom instruction focused on English learners.
- Scaffold instruction to support summarization and compare/contrast writing.
