About the Course

Reader’s Workshop is an instructional strategy designed to engage students, differentiate instruction and build intrinsic motivation. However, there is an ever growing need in today’s education for students to learn and use digital tools on top of traditional reading practices. So how can we combine the best practices of Reader’s Workshop with technology? This course will provide you with ideas and tools to enhance your Reader’s Workshop through the use of digital tools. In this course, you will review the main components of the Reader’s Workshop Model. Then you will explore online tools that will help you take your workshop digital such as FlipGrid, Screencastify and Newslea. Once you have had the opportunity to choose tools that will work for your students, you will have the opportunity to work with those digital tools and begin creating lessons to use immediately in your classroom.

Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to:

  • Identify the key components of Reader’s Workshop. 
  • Investigate different learning platforms to integrate with their reading instruction.
  • Integrate technology into current lessons.
  • Evaluate and review tools that can be used in their classroom to enhance reading instruction.
