About the Course

At the secondary level, social emotional learning (SEL) is a very different experience, has different needs, and a different approach by the teacher. In this book study of 'SEL Every Day: Integrating social and emotional learning with instruction in secondary classrooms' by Meena Srunivasan, we will explore how to frame SEL in the secondary classroom. This quick read opens so many ideas on how to approach SEL for our older students who need to practice social emotional skills to prepare them for a challenging world to navigate. By the end of the course you will have tools for how to explicitly teach the SEL standards in your daily lessons.

Upon completion of this this course students will be able to: 

  • Evaluate their own SEL strengths and growth areas.
  • Build/collect infrastructure to include in the classroom to support SEL.
  • Brainstorm daily/weekly SEL activities to incorporate into the classroom.
  • Design a lesson with explicit SEL goals for their classrooms.
