Music and Social Emotional Learning

About the Course
Teachers will actively participate in online learning to further develop their understanding of social emotional learning in music education. Specific applications will be made to practice, as teachers will create five lesson plans and one assessment rubric over the duration of the course.
This course is appropriate for music teachers of all varieties and instructional levels. Other educators are may participate, so long as they are willing to create the specified lesson plans.

- Student Workbook, Music Education and Social Emotional Learning by Scott Edgar
Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Create lesson plans for social emotional learning in each of the three general areas of music education: composition/theory, listening, performance.
- Create lesson plans for each of the five areas of social emotional learning: self-awareness, social awareness, responsible decision-making, self-management, relationship skills.
- Create an assessment rubric for social emotional learning.
