About the Course

Teachers will actively participate in online learning to further develop their understanding of choice time in the classroom grades K-2.  Specific applications will be made to practice, as teachers will read and discuss reading assignments and use their classroom as their “lab”. Teachers will apply new play strategies and centers into their classrooms and discuss their findings through online discussions and end of unit slideshow. 

This course is appropriate for teachers K-2 in all subjects.  Teachers, librarians, instructional coaches, and administrators are invited to join us; they will be asked to work on class readings, discussions, and practice play and creating centers in their teaching environments.

Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to:

  • Identify and understand how to deepen learning through inquiry and play.  
  • Use and create a variety of centers to encourage  play opportunities with their students.
  • Identify state standards in relation to subject and how play is a necessity to increase student achievement.
  • Identifying and understanding how to play through centers is imperative to academics, social skills, and behavior issues.
