How to Develop Effective Tier 2 Instruction in the General Education Classroom
About the Course
After two years of disrupted learning, the stakes are high. We as educators want to make sure all students get the help they need while avoiding mistaking the emotional and academic effects of the pandemic for a disability. Students who aren’t demonstrating proficiency in a skill or set of skills can fall victim to the “wait to fail” model. Yet when proactive, Tier 2 intervention utilizing sound, evidence-based teaching practices is introduced, it can decrease the identification of learning disabilities and create a positive learning environment where students can continue to learn effectively in their general education classroom.
In this course, we’ll learn how to gather evidence and identify our struggling students, how to design systematic and intensive Tier 2 intervention, and methodologies to monitor student progress. We’ll also discuss proactive communication with parents, including fun activities at home to promote student learning and support. At the end of this course, you will have a clear understanding of how to effectively utilize Tier 2 intervention in the general education classroom to help narrow the learning gap of struggling students.
