Why Play Works: Big Changes Start Small

About the Course
Teachers will actively participate in online learning to further develop their understanding of play in and out of the classroom grades K-8. Specific applications will be made to practice, as teachers will read the required text, Why Play Works, discuss reading assignments, and use their classroom as their “lab.” Teachers will apply new play strategies/opportunities into their classrooms and discuss their findings through online discussions and create slides each week for an end of unit slideshow. Upon completion, educators will have a slideshow that they can pull up in their classrooms and have instant access to a variety of indoor and outdoor games at their fingertips.

The main assignment in the class was finding games to play with your class from a list of possibilities. I love having a list of options that my kids can choose from when we need play to work out the wiggles or empower academics as fun. Totally useful!
