About the Course

Educators will actively participate in this online book study to further develop their understanding and experience in teaching students of poverty. Participants will research what being poor does to kids’ brains and what schools and educators can do about it. This course is appropriate for educators of any grade/content level as well as instructional coaches, interventionists, special service providers and administrators. 

Required Text:

Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to:

  • Identify and implement what it takes to teach students of poverty and how to create a safe, rich, and welcoming environment for those students to be successful and thrive. 
  • Define what poverty is and how it affects students in school. 
  • Engage a wide variety of research based resources to support students of poverty and make positive change happen.
