About the Course

In this course, teachers will actively participate in online learning to explore Open Middle problems to inspire math success in their students. Through a series of interactive and engaging learning experiences, participants will explore effective strategies for facilitating Open Middle problem-solving, differentiating Open Middle problems to meet the diverse needs and abilities of learners, and integrating Open Middle problem-solving into interdisciplinary and real-world contexts. Participants will also deepen their understanding of the depth of knowledge required for Open Middle problem-solving and how to use the Depth of Knowledge (DOK) framework to design and evaluate Open Middle problems.

This course is appropriate for all K-12 math teachers.

Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to:

  • Analyze Open Middle problems.
  • Design and implement Open Middle activities for the classroom.
  • Apply the Depth of Knowledge (DOK) framebook to design assessments and activities to support students’ higher-order thinking skills.
