About the Course

Teachers will actively participate in online learning to further develop their understanding of teaching students to read multi-layered and complex texts at deeper levels for higher student understanding, enjoyment and achievement.  Specific applications will be made to practice, as teachers will create plans to implement and maintain procedures to deepen student understanding of complex texts.

This course is appropriate for teachers of students in grades 4-12 and for all subject areas that require students to read complex texts.

Required Text:

Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to:

  • Prepare students for complex reading tasks.
  • Create scaffolds and procedures that enable students to deeply read texts.
  • Teach students to reflect on the relevance of complex texts to themselves and their world.
  • Employ collaboration strategies for students to deepen reading comprehension.
