Restorative Practices in the Classroom

About the Course
Teachers, special service providers, and/or school professionals will actively participate in online learning to further develop their understanding of restorative practices, including but not limited to conflict resolution, restorative circles, and the importance of relationship building as it pertains to education. Specific applications will be made to practice, as teachers will outline a lesson using the restorative circle model for their classroom.
This course is appropriate for teachers in both primary and secondary education, special service providers, and administrators. Teacher librarians, instructional coaches, and other school professionals are invited to join us; they will be asked to work on a restorative circle outline with a grade or group of their choice.

Upon completion of the course, the student will be able to:
- Effectively create and implement restorative justice circles for their classroom or small group
- Implement the restorative justice model for conflict resolution and problem solving in the classroom
- Utilize and access a deeper understanding of the role of discipline and punishment in the school setting,
- Develop a stronger framework for building trusting and respectful relationships with students.
- Identify positive and negatives of their current school discipline system when compared to the restorative justice model, and what changes they may want to implement to their own practices
