Close Study: Texts as Sources. Texts as Mentors
About the Course
In this course, we will explore the use of texts as sources and texts as mentors. In this way, we will develop a mental model for an inquiry-based approach to designing or adapting short- or long- term units of study that brings the reading and writing workshops together.
Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:
- Engage in close reading and writing strategies using texts as sources to extract and interact for meaning.
- Implement instructional strategies for close reading and writing about texts to support students to extract and interact for meaning.
- Engage in close reading and writing strategies using texts as mentors to understand and imitate craft and style.
- Implement instructional strategies for close reading and writing like texts to support students to understand and imitate craft and style.
- Make intentional decisions about “write about” and “write like” processes so that teachers and students are clear about their purpose in engaging in literacy behaviors.
