In this course, we will explore the use of texts as sources and texts as mentors.  In this way, we will develop a mental model for an inquiry-based approach to designing or adapting short- or long- term units of study that brings the reading and writing workshops together. 

Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:

• Engage in close reading and writing strategies using texts as sources to extract and interact for meaning. 
• Implement instructional strategies for close reading and writing about texts to support students to extract and interact for meaning.
• Engage in close reading and writing strategies using texts as mentors to understand and imitate craft and style. 
• Implement instructional strategies for close reading and writing like texts to support students to understand and imitate craft and style. 
• Make intentional decisions about “write about” and “write like” processes so that teachers and students are clear about their purpose in engaging in literacy behaviors.
