Brain Development & the Impact of Trauma

About the Course
Course participants will actively participate online to learn about typical brain development. Through the coursework, participants will then begin to learn about trauma and the impact it has on brain development with a specific focus on learning. Connections to the classroom will also be offered to help participants reflect on their practice and think of how they can implement trauma-informed practices within their work environment for student success.
This course is meant to discuss how trauma can affect people and may be triggering for some people. Please contact the instructor to discuss any concerns you have before starting the course and/or during the course.
This course is appropriate for all roles that work with students. Brain development as well as trauma come in different forms for different people and while there is no one size fits all approach, once there is understanding of these topics and different ways of implementing trauma-informed practices, educators will be better equipped in the moment.
Upon completion of the course, the student will be able to:
- Identify student needs from a trauma-informed perspective
- Develop relationships with students from a trauma-informed perspective.
- Reflect on their work from a trauma-informed perspective.
- Implement trauma-informed practices in their class
