About the Course
This course will be a book study of Trauma Stewardship, An Everyday Guide to Caring for Self While Caring for Others by Laura van Dernoot Lipsky. Participants will actively participate in online learning to further develop their understanding of trauma exposure in the workforce. This book study uses humor, research and personal reflections to discuss symptoms people experience when being exposed to trauma and the trauma of those they help. Through reflections, readings, and journals we will gain fresh, new strategies to stay present, balance our personal and professional lives, and most importantly keep from becoming burnt out and overwhelmed. The author, Laura van Dernoot Lipsky is a trauma social worker and educator with decades of experience in helping others, who spend their careers making the world a better place.
This course is appropriate for all educational professionals including: K-12 classroom teachers, special service providers, school social workers, teacher librarians, instructional coaches, and administrators.

Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Identify the impacts of trauma exposure in ourselves, our organizations and society.
- Reflect personal past, current and new personal trauma exposure symptoms and practices.
- Develop strategies for balancing personal and professional life, while working with the challenges of trauma exposure.
- Identify the relationship between oppression and trauma.
