About the Course

This course describes how the brain works, and how to help students learn, develop, and perform more effectively in diverse settings. By using stories, metaphors, and engaging illustrations to illuminate technical ideas, this class synthesizes relevant trends in neuroscience, cognitive science, and philosophy of mind.

For students unfamiliar with current brain discoveries, this course is informative and effective. Students will find references to additional materials and scientific journals that will supplement their existing knowledge. Students will appreciate a fresh perspective on foundational theories of learning and development. The course also provides dozens of “brain aware” approaches used by an international group of experienced trainers, educators, consultants, and coaches.

Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to:

  1. Identify parts of the brain and how those pieces contribute both biological and cognitively to adult learning, including the various biases and emotions adults experience
  2. Demonstrate various adult learning strategies by using them during the class sessions
  3. Compare and contrast adult learning strategies and theories to determine which are more effective in various settings
  4. Reflect on how the adult brain, including their own, learns new material and makes meaning through a professional development opportunity
  • Subject(s): Education Leadership Education Support Professionals Professional Development
