Appreciating Multiple Intelligences in the Classroom

About the Course
Howard Gardner stated that “it is of the utmost importance that we recognize and nurture all of the varied human intelligences, and all of the combinations of intelligences. We are all so different largely because we all have different combinations of intelligences. If we recognize this, I think we will have at least a better chance of dealing appropriately with the many problems that we face in the world.” What can we unlock in ourselves and in our students by encouraging and appreciating the broad range of abilities each of us brings to our relationships and learning environment? In this course, appropriate for educators of all levels, you will have the opportunity to look outside the narrow scope of traditional IQ scores and explore the notion that we all learn, contribute and excel in many different ways.
Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Explore the concepts presented by Howard Gardner and others surrounding the different multiple intelligences
- Discover and analyze their own areas of strength within the multiple intelligences via a multiple intelligences inventory.
- Distinguish between intellectual intelligence and emotional intelligences.
- Analyze, synthesize, reflect, and respond to articles and questions directly related to using multiple intelligences to improve the classroom environment and student engagement.
- Summarize and analyze the course topics in a final course reflection.
