A Practical Guide to Equity in the Classroom
About the Course
This course aims to empower educators to become agents of change by equipping them with the knowledge, tools, and critical mindset necessary to foster a more equitable educational environment. It emphasizes not only understanding the complexities of equity but also taking proactive steps to create inclusive and supportive learning environments for all students.
This course is appropriate for elementary and secondary educators of any subject. Teacher librarians, instructional coaches, and administrators are invited to join us; they will be asked to work on a planning template in a discipline of their choice.
Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:
- Evaluate and explain the existing policies and practices at district, school, and classroom levels that either promote or impede equity.
- Explore the historical background contributing to inequities within the education system.
- Identify effective practices and mindsets that foster a more equitable educational environment for students.
- Create an action plan that reimagines a current school or classroom policy or practice with a focus on equity.
- Advocate for equity in policies and practices within your school and classroom that promote equity and inclusivity.
