Trauma Sensitive School Leadership for Teachers and School Leaders

About the Course
Teachers and leaders will actively participate in online learning to further develop their understanding of the impact of trauma on students and effect on the school community as a whole.
Teachers and leaders will examine biases and barriers that prevent schools from addressing trauma, how to take steps to avoid retraumatizing students, practices to embrace and support solution based approaches, how teachers and leaders can design an environment for support around caring and mindset and how teachers and leaders can support supervisees and colleagues to avoid secondary trauma. The course will wrap up with a call to action and turning trauma into triumph.
This course is appropriate for K-12 teachers and K-12 school leaders. Students in the course will be asked to work on a planning template toward action.

Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Students will be able to identify biases and barriers that prevent schools from addressing trauma
- Students will learn about how to redesign an environment for greater safety and support for students
- Students will learn more about caring for trauma impacted students in ways that support learning and growth
- Students will learn more about secondary trauma and how to identify and lesson its impact
