Sketchnoting: Enhancing Learning Through Visual Notetaking

About the Course
Visual notetaking or sketchnotes is a valuable skill to move your students into 21st century learning. Sketchnoting was created by artist Mike Rhode. He was unable to concentrate while at meetings and in class so he came up with a form of purposeful doodling. Sketchnotes don't require artistic skills, they develop skills to visually synthesize and summarize via shapes, connectors, and text. Sketchnotes are as much a method of note taking as they are a form of creative expression. You will be able to differentiate your instruction and find a valuable new way to assess your students with visual notes.
Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Engage their student’s creativity and cognition through the use of images, text, and diagrams.
- See how visual notetaking can help with learning retention and to develop strategies to increase knowledge of the content.
- Tap into the creative side of ELLs and all students while promoting listening and comprehension skills.
- Boost feelings of self confidence by allowing students to communicate in new ways.
- Increase focus on learning and improve active recall.
- Demonstrate divergent thought and see how visual note taking can encourage discoveries that words alone cannot replicate.

This class was very useful. It was also really well organized and I was able to keep track of my progress. Colleen also gives timely and useful feedback. Get your markers out and take this class!

This was one of the most useful classes I've taken through Co-Pilot. Students are much more engaged when they are processing information in this visual / imaginative way. Sketchnotes have many applications that go far beyond taking notes, and I'm looking forward to using them in a variety of contexts with students. This is a super worthwhile class for anyone!

My students are fascinated with the freedom I am giving them, not only to create stories but also in the creative writing project that I am implementing in my Spanish language arts class. Thank you for being so inspirational!!
