Minds of All Kinds: Part 3 - Broadening our Impact for Neurodivergent Learners

About the Course
Minds of All Kinds: Part 3 is the culmination of a three-part series about neurodiversity in the classroom. In this class, students will dig deep into the history of Autism, explore issues of equity and inclusion in our schools, consider Autistic voices around affirming practices, and implement an action/advocacy initiative in their school, community, district, or even at the state level. This class is designed to create concrete, meaningful change for our neurodiverse learners.
NOTE: ideally, students will have taken Part 1 & Part 2, however, the class is available to anyone with a strong background working with Autistic learners.
Required Text:
- Neurotribes: The Legacy of Autism and the Future of Neurodiversity by Steve Silberman
Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Explain the historical context of the neurodiversity movement
- Evaluate existing models of educational practice against research informed by the neurodivergent community
- Recognize examples/non-examples of equity and inclusion in various contexts
- Define and implement an action-oriented advocacy project to address a need of neurodivergent learners
