About the Course
Teachers, special service providers, and/or school professionals will gain a deeper understanding how racism impacts the Black body. Learners will read, “My Grandmother’s Hands” and reflect on different statistics, information, and emotions that are discussed in the text. Menakem provides somatic healing exercises throughout the book that can support healing for all educators.
This book contains stories and statistics about violence; please take care of yourself throughout this course.

Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Develop an understanding of racial trauma
- Explain the long term impact of an elevated ACEs score
- Identify supports for students who have experienced racial trauma
- Implement somatic healing practices that were meaningful
