Designed for anyone looking to connect with native Spanish speakers–whether in educational settings or the broader community–this course offers practical language in safe, supported conversation with peers. Emphasis is placed on everyday communication relevant to work and community life, while also exploring cultural and linguistic insights that support meaningful engagement with English language learners and their families.
Ideal for true beginners or those in need of a refresher, this class serves as a foundation for further Spanish study. If you're already comfortable using the present tense, consider enrolling in Spanish for Sort-of Speakers, which dives deeper into grammar and conversational fluency.
Participants in this course will attend IN-PERSON classes at the Boulder Valley Education Association office in Lafayette.
Upon completion of the course, the student will be able to:
- Students will accurately decode Spanish text, using correct pronunciation and accentuation.
- Students will converse with a partner in Spanish about a variety of personally relevant topics, demonstrating listening comprehension and accurately conveying meaning.
- Students will speak and write in grammatically correct sentences utilizing the present, preterite, imperfect, future and conditional tenses, in addition to temporal, locational and directional prepositions.
- Students will prepare and present a lesson in Spanish that is appropriate for teaching to a student or students’ family member.
- Students will gain an understanding of linguistic and cultural differences that will help them better accommodate and communicate with their native Spanish-speaking students and their families.
