About the Course

Educators will actively engage in this online book study to deepen their understanding and expand their repertoire of effective teaching strategies for multilingual learners. Participants will explore practical approaches for lesson planning, instructional delivery, and assessment, along with a brief refresher on the fundamentals of second language acquisition.  

This course is designed for teachers and staff at all grade levels who wish to enhance instruction for diverse learners.

Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to:

  • Integrate new strategies from 99 More Ideas and Activities for Teaching English Learners into their teaching practice.
  • Apply research-based instructional strategies from the SIOP model to plan and deliver lessons that support English learners and benefit all students.
  • Design lessons and activities that incorporate language objectives alongside content objectives to enhance comprehension and engagement.
  • Use assessment data to inform instructional decisions and adapt teaching strategies for learners at different language proficiency levels.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of second language acquisition principles and apply them to classroom instruction.
