From Surface to Depth: Using Thinking Routines to Transform Classroom Talk
About the Course
This course explores how thinking routines can deepen student understanding and foster richer classroom dialogue. Through hands-on practice, teachers will explore a variety of routines designed to make student thinking visible and meaningful. Each week, participants will select, implement, and reflect on specific routines in their own classrooms, building a toolkit of strategies that promote active engagement, curiosity, and deeper learning. By the end of the course, teachers will be equipped to create a classroom culture where thinking and dialogue thrive.
This course is appropriate for K-12 teachers. Teacher librarians, instructional coaches, and administrators are invited to join us; they will be invited to think through assignments and suggest alternate tasks that better suit their roles.
