Foundations of Classroom Management
About the Course

While reading Teaching with Love and Logic by Jim Fay and Charles Fay, participants will explore practical, relationship-based strategies for creating positive classroom environments that promote student accountability, empathy, and intrinsic motivation. This course examines how teachers can guide student behavior with calm consistency while maintaining strong, caring relationships.
Topics covered include setting clear and enforceable limits, using logical consequences, fostering problem-solving skills, and teaching students to make responsible choices. Participants will learn how emotions influence behavior and decision-making, and how educators can respond to challenging behaviors in ways that reduce power struggles and increase student ownership of learning.
This course is designed for educators and school staff who work with students in any capacity. Through this book study, participants will develop effective classroom management strategies that support both academic success and social-emotional growth. The principles of Love and Logic provide tools that can be adapted to meet the diverse needs of students, including those with behavioral challenges.
Throughout the course, participants will actively engage in online discussions, reflections, and practical applications to deepen their understanding of respectful discipline and proactive classroom management.
