Reaching Gen Z & Gen Alpha: Teaching the Most Distracted Generation
About the Course
Today’s students have grown up in an algorithm-driven, short-form, high-stimulation digital world. Generation Z and Generation Alpha process information differently, experience attention differently, and engage with learning differently than previous generations. Many educators are observing shortened attention spans, reduced academic stamina, increased task avoidance, heightened anxiety, and a preference for passive consumption over active thinking.
This course is designed to equip educators with research-informed, classroom-ready strategies to effectively reach and teach the most distracted generation. Participants will examine attention science, motivation psychology, digital culture, identity formation, and classroom design principles that increase engagement without sacrificing rigor.
Through practical redesigns, reflection, and application-based assignments, educators will build a Distraction-Resilient Classroom Toolkit that increases focus, ownership, curiosity, and meaningful participation.
Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Analyze the cognitive and behavioral characteristics of Gen Z and Gen Alpha learners.
- Identify classroom practices that unintentionally contribute to distraction.
- Redesign instruction to improve attention, stamina, and deep engagement.
- Implement motivational and autonomy-supportive teaching strategies.
- Develop a Distraction-Resilient Classroom Toolkit ready for immediate implementation.
