About the Course

In this 8-week course, educators will explore neurodiversity and inclusive classroom practices through professional learning, reflection, and authentic classroom application. Participants will engage with a variety of articles, podcasts, videos, and optional professional texts to deepen their understanding of neurodiverse learners and evidence-based instructional practices.

Throughout the course, educators will investigate topics such as executive functioning, sensory-friendly learning environments, strength-based teaching, inclusive instruction, assessment, collaboration, and advocacy. Participants will choose between two personalized learning pathways: building a practical Neurodiversity Toolkit or following a Learner's Journey by applying each week's concepts to a real or fictional student case study.

By the end of the course, educators will have developed practical resources and strategies to better recognize student strengths, reduce barriers to learning, and create classrooms where every learner feels understood, valued, and supported. This course is appropriate for all K–12 educators.

Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to:

  • Explain the principles of neurodiversity and describe how they influence inclusive teaching and learning practices.
  • Analyze classroom environments, instructional practices, and assessment methods to identify barriers and opportunities for supporting neurodiverse learners.
  • Design instructional resources, learning experiences, or classroom supports that promote accessibility, engagement, and success for neurodiverse students.
  • Apply evidence-based strategies to create more inclusive, brain-friendly learning environments that recognize student strengths and diverse learning needs.
  • Develop a personalized action plan that incorporates practical strategies for reducing barriers to learning, fostering belonging, and supporting the success of neurodiverse learners.
