About the Course

Do you want to create a free website that allows you to easily give assignments, quizzes, and house everything you would want for your class? Would you like to have multiple choice tests and quizzes that can be graded by your website as well as open ended tests and quizzes that you can grade wherever you can log into the internet? In this class, you will learn to set up a class through Schoology. You will be able to assign lessons that can include videos, documents, tests, quizzes, and classroom discussions. You can take attendance and set up a grade book. You can use Schoology as a way to have a blended classroom or to purely house what you’ve done so that students can check out what they have missed while they were absent. You can archive your class and then copy what you’ve created for the following year so that you won’t have to recreate the wheel. You can share what you’re creating with other educators in your school or educators in other schools. This tool can be used for the classroom, sports team, or any other group or club that you can think of. Schoology is truly versatile and can fit the needs of many.

This course is appropriate for elementary, middle, and high school educators in every subject area. Educator librarians, instructional coaches, and administrators are invited to join us; they will be asked to create a Schoology website in for a group of their choice. 

Student Learning Outcomes:

  • Create a Schoology website that is organized and easily navigated.
  • Share creations on their Schoology page with other learners in the class.
  • Set up tests, quizzes, assignments, the grade book, add students, and learn how to use the various tools within all of these categories.

Facilitator

Catherine Lee

Catherine Lee is a secondary mathematics teacher who currently works with 7th grade students in Colorado to build their mathematical/critical thinking skills. This is her 15th year of teaching math; 11 years at the middle school level and 4 years at the high school level.

The way in which students learn has changed dramatically from her first year of teaching. Over the course of several years, Catherine has updated her teaching style to meet the needs of the newest generation of digital learners. By creating videos and incorporating them into her class, students are able to use technology in a meaningful way within her classroom and she is able to have small groups to help students succeed. In turn, classroom management has become much easier, better relationships with students have been formed, days are less stressful, and her evaluations have improved. In addition, students are able to watch the videos at home when they are absent or when they want to see the lesson again. The following are quotes from students and one parent:

Catherine holds a BA in secondary mathematics from the University of Northern Colorado, a MA in secondary pedagogy and design in mathematics from the University of Colorado in Denver, and a MA in school counseling from Adams State University.
