About the Course

According to Pasi Sahlsberg in his book Finnish Lessons 2.0 “in order to fix the crisis in education today, specifically the United States, it is time to learn from an educational system that has taken the world by surprise.” This book study will explore the educational system of Finland and study how it has been ranked number three in student success world-wide. A focus will be on the multiple reasons behind the success of Finnish education and how these could benefit the United States.

Reviews

Guinevere Jones
The book brought up a lot of interesting issues in education. I found myself bringing up the issues in many conversations.
Sarah Worosylo
I really enjoyed this class! The connections I made to the frustrations and realities of teaching in the U.S. was interesting and easy to relate to. I would recommend this study!
Carrie Aylor
Book was a bit dense, but many interesting ideas about how the Finnish System is serving its students better. A good book to look at other options and changes that are needed in the U.S. school systems.
