About the Course

In this 8-week book study course we will be discovering the magic of "Building Thinking Classrooms in Mathematics, Grades K-12" by Peter Liljedahl. Participants will explore the 14 teaching practices aimed at fostering a thinking-centered approach to mathematics instruction. Through reading, reflection, discussions, and assignments, participants will gain insights and practical strategies to enhance their teaching practices and create a classroom environment that promotes student engagement, problem-solving skills, and mathematical thinking. This course is appropriate for all K-12 math teachers. Other content areas are welcome to join, but a majority of the resources are math related.

Leigh Ann Eucker

Leigh Ann Eucker is a Third Grade Teacher at Bethke Elementary School in Poudre School District who works with elementary students to help them grow and learn as an individual and a student. Leigh Ann believes that collaboration with educational professionals and specialists, along with partnering with parents/guardians, help lead to student success. Professional growth and learning are an important factor of a teacher’s success. COpilot allows opportunities for an educator to further develop their teaching practice.

Leigh Ann has been teaching at the elementary level for twelve years. She has been a lead teacher when her district adopted a new math program, has facilitated work around revising a math pacing guide for the district, and has been active in many building-wide committees including MTSS, Wellness, and SIT.

Leigh Ann holds a BA in Elementary Education from Lewis University and a MA in Currirculum and Instruction from Arkansas State University.

The Building a Thinking Classroom in Mathematics book study was such a great experience. I really liked exploring ways to shift math learning toward student thinking, collaboration, and engagement. Our facilitator was amazing—so knowledgeable and supportive—and made each reflection question and task we tried meaningful and enjoyable. I especially loved the Facebook group for sharing ideas and seeing what others were trying in their classrooms! I highly recommend this class!
